Cannabem Liberemus - LEGALIZE!

WWW
« on: January 07, 2009, 10:31:40 AM »

The 2009 Global Cannabis March, or Philadelphia Cannabis Festival, will be taking place on Saturday May 2, 2009. The event is still being planned, so more information will be posted as it becomes available. The GCM is an annual event that brings out hundreds of supporters, patients, and onlookers. It's an excellent opportunity to show just how popular legalization is, and to have a lot of fun. In 2008 we had our biggest one yet with over 400 people. This year we hope to top 1,000. Check back often for updates!

Tentative schedule
Saturday, May 2, 2009
Meet at Broad St. and South St. at 4:00pm
March towards Headhouse Square at 4:20pm
Arrive at Headhouse Square by 5:20pm
Speeches - done by 6:30pm
Afterparty - TBA

considering the disaster on the Mexican border and the Obama administration's escalation and militarization of the drug war, I would really like to see this rally more as a protest against the drug war.

Obama's New Improved Drug War - Big and Stupid

So Obama's new approach is "sort of a public health" and "...we have to have significant law enforcement."

Mass protest of the war on drugs is the only way to get the congress to end the anarchistic crime and terrorism that are funded by the black market created and protected by the war on drugs prohibition policy.

Hey Derek,

ANY way we could do some kind of a ride board?  I for one would rather pay a like-minded fellow NORML person than the local bus lines....
Not to mention it's about 6-8hrs by bus from up here, (they go through Port Authority before heading to Philly), rather than the 2 1/2 hrs by car...

Also, this is the same weekend of the Dead shows. I'll be going from the march over to the concert, so if anyone needs a ride to the show I'll have room in my car.  smokin

I'm surprised I see no local media coverage even after Cohen introduced his bill.  Who has the video of the event for us out of state people to see?  joint peace

I was disappointed to see the march completely unreported in the Metro paper.  Sunday's Gay Rights demonstration was front page news (and rightly so, imo), but based on the story, it looks like our march had similar turnout, maybe more.
